I don't make the news, I only report it
I'm Nick, the Home Inspector and proud owner of FourN Home Inspections. My journey began in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I was born and raised in the Queen City. I pursued higher education at the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH, where I successfully earned my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Science and Engineering Technology.
Interestingly, becoming a home inspector was not part of my initial career plan. After completing my degree, I embarked on a career in various IT-related roles, spanning from Help Desk positions to Program Manager roles and everything in between. The world of home inspection was nowhere on my radar at that time.
In 2007, I returned to my hometown, Cincinnati, but in 2009, I faced a career turning point when I experienced a layoff. This pivotal moment led me to make another life-changing decision. In the fall of 2009, I made a significant move to the other Queen City, Charlotte, NC, where I eventually found my passion and purpose as a Home Inspector. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm honored to serve the Charlotte community through FourN Home Inspections.
After my move to Charlotte, I engaged a home inspector to assess my first home purchase. As I addressed the repairs noted in the inspection report, I found myself drawn to more extensive home renovation projects. This growing interest in construction-related work led me to consider a career in the field. At that point, becoming a home inspector was not yet on my radar.
As my wife and I acquired more properties, my desire to work in construction continued to intensify. Initially, I thought this passion might lead me to become a general contractor rather than a home inspector. To deepen my knowledge of the construction industry, I enrolled in classes at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC).
I embarked on this educational journey by starting with an introductory carpentry course, which served as a prerequisite for Carpentry II. In the latter, we honed our skills in framing a tiny house. The more courses I completed, the clearer it became that the role of a home inspector was the perfect fit for me.
Driven by this newfound passion, I delved into researching the responsibilities and demands of a home inspector. The more I learned about the profession, the more I became convinced that it was the path I wanted to pursue. To prepare myself for this role, I enrolled in the Professional Home Inspector Training program at CPCC, a comprehensive program that equipped me for the North Carolina Home Inspector exam.
In March 2023, I successfully passed the North Carolina Home Inspector exam, marking the official beginning of my journey as a licensed Home Inspector.
My background as a Senior Program Manager in Information Technology has proven to be a valuable asset in my role as a home inspector. In my previous position as a Senior Program Manager, I regularly had to convey technical information to individuals who lacked a technical background, a skill that aligns closely with my current responsibilities as a home inspector.
One of the aspects I take great pride in as a home inspector is my ability to effectively communicate and simplify issues for my clients. I understand that many of my clients may not have a deep understanding of construction terminology or the intricacies of the home inspection process. Therefore, I make it a point to explain findings in a manner that is easy to grasp.
In my role as Nick the home inspector, my primary duty is not to create news but to report it accurately. My commitment lies in providing comprehensive and accessible information to my clients, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their properties.
